Course description

This module examines the macro-historical changes in the forms and structures of the modern State and the ways that these changes are represented by the political thought. This approach combines the historical and political sociology with the theory of political ideas.

Objectives

To acquire an in depth knowledge on the historical and social factors underlying the changes in the form-State
To acquire an in depth Knowledge on the processes of emergence of new theoretical schemas in the political thought’s realm

Learning outcomes

Development of competence on the analysis of articulations between the macro-political level and its theoretical approaches
Critical understanding of the state’s relevance for the social discrimination and citizenship
Comparative approach of the social contact theories

Structure

Three-hour interactive lectures and student’s presentations on topics related to the themes of the module

Students’ Assessment

An essay up to 6000 words accounts for 40% of the grade
