Course Description

In this course are analyzed the of the policies and practices which have been developed in Greece, in EU and internationally concerning mainly Informal Education, Non-formal Education, Lifelong Education and Adult Education as well as elements of  Long Distance Learning Education. Emphasis is given on the contemporary circumstances which favor the new forms of education, on their foundation conceptualization and delimitations. In this direction case studies and examples as well as agents and models of these forms of education are analyzed.

Objectives

  • To study in an advanced level different approaches of organizations as UNESCO, OECD or union of states as EU on the new forms of education
  • To study the differences among Informal Education, Non-formal Education, Lifelong Education and Adult Education as well as elements of  Long Distance Learning Education
  • To study institutionally and on research level the evolution of Lifelong Education and Adult Education as well as their models

Learning Outcomes

After the end of the course students should:

  • Have the competencies to critically approach the different approaches of significant organizations as UNESCO, OECD, and Unions of States as EU which play an important role in education.  
  • Have the competencies to delimit and critically approach Informal Education, Non-formal Education, Lifelong Education and Adult Education as well as elements of  Long Distance Learning Education
  • Have the ability of critically approach of different models of Life Long Education
  • Have advanced competencies of comprehension of research approaches and institutional evolutions  of Lifelong Education and Adult Education

Structure

The course is realized in 13 meetings of 3 hours. In this courses are used different teaching techniques as: lectures, focused discussion, brainstorming, work in small groups, case studies, presentation of assignments. Moreover work sheets and electronic media are used.  

Students’ Assessment

The assessment is based on written final exams as well as in optional assignments which are presented by the students.
