PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
|
A key feature of the development of health care systems in recent years is that health services acquire a more specialized content which exceeds traditional medical or nursing education and extends to include the topics of planning and institutional constitution, the economic and administrative management, the utilization of technology and communication, the management of behavior and of leadership as well as their social significance and legitimacy. In this context, the Postgraduate programme of the Department of Social and Educational Policy of the University of the Peloponnese entitled, Institutions and Health Policies aims at covering a particular area of health systems, namely the institutional constitution and policy design. This scope is at the same time the comparative advantage of the programme as it combines theory with practice. For this reason the postgraduate course concerns healthcare professionals and graduates from relevant scientific areas by providing expert knowledge in a range of sectors and fields connected with the wider academic field of health. Hence, it provides students with the suitable skills and competencies in the topics of research methods, of economic and health units’ management, of anthropology of health, of health education policy, of health law and in the broader issue of social protection considered as necessary for the formulation of a comprehensive as well as specialized knowledge in these fields. The programme is run through five main thematic units, the contents of which reflects its interdisciplinary philosophy.
