Welcome from the Chair

Dear students,

On behalf of our teaching and administrative staff, I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Social and Educational Policy and the University of the Peloponnese. Over its 23 years of operation, our Department has established a strong presence within the University of the Peloponnese. Its distinctive academic identity is reflected in the interdisciplinary orientation, the quality of the academic programs, the research outcomes and achievements, the active participation in academic networks, the connection with the local community, and the collaboration with public policy institutions at both the regional and national levels.

The academic identity of the Department of Social and Educational Policy has been shaped by a clear and consistent educational mission: to provide our students with a strong theoretical foundation and to help them develop the knowledge, skills, and capacities they need to achieve their goals as scholars, future professionals, and active citizens in the twenty-first-century society.

Our teaching staff is committed to continuously improving the quality of teaching and learning, while strengthening the links between education, research, contemporary society, and the labour market. A decisive step in this direction is the introduction of two new undergraduate programs in our Department, starting in the 2026–27 academic year, namely:

•    Education Sciences and Lifelong Learning
•    Social Policy

Both programs have been accredited by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) and received the highest rating across all evaluation criteria. This recognition further strengthens distinctive position of the Department within Greek higher education. Each program has a clearly defined academic focus and a coherent curriculum that integrates theoretical foundations, scientific research, and applied policies.

Together, the two programs provide students with the opportunity to engage with two contemporary and socially relevant fields, while opening up a wide range of academic and professional pathways.

We are especially pleased to welcome our first-year students who have chosen our Department for their studies. Congratulations on your achievement. We know that you are starting your university experience with enthusiasm, expectations, and aspirations for the future. It is important to remember, however, that the journey of learning requires active participation, an inquisitive spirit, and sustained effort. It is a demanding journey, but ultimately a rewarding and fulfilling one, as it will provide you with valuable experiences, moments of joy, and opportunities for achievement. I wish you a wonderful four-year adventure filled with interaction, creativity, and learning.
